Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture caused by damage occurring to the developing brain, most often before birth.
Some of the most common symptoms include:
Movement and coordination
- Stiff muscles and exaggerated reflexes
- Too stiff or too floppy muscle tone
- Stiff muscles with normal reflexes
- Lack of balance and muscle coordination
- Tremors or jerky involuntary movements
- Slow, writhing movements
- Difficulty walking
- Difficulty with fine motor skills
Speech and eating
- Delays in speech development
- Excessive drooling or problems with swallowing
- Difficulty with sucking, chewing or eating
